Muzeul de Artă is at Piața Libertății 21, in central Satu Mare. The museum is housed in Casa Vécsey, a mid-19th-century building in Neo-Gothic style that is recognized as a historic and architectural monument.

Local tradition connects the site to the Peace of Satu Mare, concluded in 1711. A commemorative plaque by artist Aurel Popp was installed on the building in 1911; the tourism board also notes a plaque in the courtyard.

The permanent exhibition presents works by Aurel Popp and his contemporaries. Casa Vécsey has served changing museum roles over time: it was the county museum’s central headquarters from 1958 to 1984, then became dedicated exclusively to art collections from 1985.

The building was partially restored in 2011 and 2016, and the permanent exhibition was reorganized in 2016. Temporary exhibitions have a separate admission category, so check with the museum to confirm what is on view and what it costs.
